- The Division of Health Statistics
maintains current and historical, annual and
multiple-year cross-tabulations in different
formats and using other variables from vital
records that are not contained in published
reports. Copies of these tabulations can be
obtained by contacting the Division (telephone:
(717)783-2548, FAX: (717)772- 3258, or e-mail: webmaster@health.state.pa.us). However, many of these
crosstabulations are quite lengthy and there may
be a charge involved, especially if several years
of information are requested. Many of these
tabulations are also available on floppy diskette
in ASCII (text) format for a nominal fee. (See Order Form
for Statistics on Diskette for a listing of electronic data
available from our published reports.) The
Division can also produce, for a fee, special
computer-generated output customized to the
user’s specifications, with some
qualifications.

- Below is a list of tabulations
available by type of record. Unless otherwise
specified, annual birth and death tabulations are
available in the same format back to 1960. Some
multiple-year tabulations (in five-year summary
tables or year-by-year figures) are available for
1979-96, unless otherwise specified. Racial
breakdowns for 1990-96 annual tabulations are for
white, black, and all other. Prior to 1990, all
annual tabulations list racial data for white and
all other only. However, multiple-year
tabulations by race are available back to 1979
for white, black, and all others. Annual
tabulations of births for 1960-88 are by race of
child. Race of mother appears in annual
tabulations starting with 1989 data.
Multiple-year birth tabulations are by race of
mother. County and minor civil division level
data are available only when indicated for each
tabulation. Minor Civil Division is city, borough
or township. Data tables that list minor civil
divisions are available only back to 1961, unless
otherwise specified.
